Fostering a Love of Reading in Children
Reading should be fun, exciting, and enjoyable so we have included some tips to help you foster a love of reading for yourself or a kid.
-
Take Books on the Go
-
We are more likely to read during idle periods and so are kids. Take a book along for car rides, office visits, and errands.
-
-
Read Together
-
Before bed have a read along session with kids. Pick a book that is more difficult for them to read on their own. Reserve other books for them to read independently.
-
Adults can also read together. Partners may listen to an audiobook together or have a designated reading time together.
-
-
Read What You Want!
-
Find your voice! Skip the lists that tell you that you HAVE to read book and go for what you are interested in. Let kids do the same and they too will read more.
-
Try out graphic novels, audiobooks, or young adult. All of these are real books and count as reading!
